corner to corner triangle shawl

I crocheted this shawl for a friend of mine using the corner to corner afghan tutorial from The Crochet Crowd, with 4 skeins of Caron Simply Soft yarn, and a 6mm hook.
I've made scarves with this pattern in the past, but this is the first time I've used a solid color yarn.  with variegated yarn the focus is the patchwork of color, so I never noticed before the cool texture it makes!
instead of a rectangle or a square, I did a triangle.  I just increased like the pattern says to, and when I thought it was long enough I simply didn't decrease back down to the other corner.  I did a scallop around the two straight edges to match the "unfinished" long edge, but this is totally optional and I think I'd skip it if I did this one again.

if watching a video isn't your thing, here's a link to a written pattern provided by Artiamus Imura: Corner to Corner Triangle Shawl

Watched the video and thought, wow! How ingenious to take the design of an Afghan and turn it into a shawl. Beautiful color by the way. Caron yarn is so expensive, I may try something different, thanks so much. I looked at your video and made a pattern for it.

I love this pattern, thank you for sharing, especially the youtube video! :)

I am making this for myself right now in dark red by Red Heart Soft Touch (not Red Heart Soft, that is a heavier yarn). Soft Touch is very similar to Caron Simply Soft and has a similar drape and sheen. Can't wait to see how it turns out! :D

Watched you YouTube video this morning and wanted to let you know how enjoyable it was to see a nicely presented video and to see well manicured hands. I have made the c2c rectangular shawl and c2c baby blanket so was well acquainted with the pattern but still watched your video to the end because of your well prepared presentation. Hope you find time to make more videos in the future.

thank you everyone! I hope all of yall's shawls turn out well :)

since having my 2nd child I haven't had as much time for crafting as I'd like, and now that I've just had my 3rd (and last!) child I'm really strapped for time. I'm hoping to do more video tutorials in the future, but it's just going to be a little while before I get to them.

I still don't see how many blocks we make for each side of the shawl. I know it isn't a triangle. How do you make the sides that wrap over the shoulders?
I really would like to make this shawl.

It is a triangle, though. It's half of a square diagonally. It's all one piece. Mine looks the way it does because of the drape of the yarn I used. I suggest watching the Crochet Crowd's video I've linked in the very beginning of this post.

This is a great video!! I want to make one for myself. What size would you say this is when completed using the same yarn and hook?

Thank!

Natasha, I did not measure it before I gave it away! I'm really kicking myself for not doing that. I did it by fit, so what I was going for was a width that when folded over at the collar and draped across my shoulders, the edges that act like sleeves landed somewhere just past my elbows. So I just kept going until it fit how I liked. I think from the middle of the wide edge to the tip of the triangle (what goes from the neck down the back) may have been about 36", and the wide part of the triangle that goes across the shoulders may have been somewhere around 50 inches or so. The good thing about this pattern is you can just keep going until it is big enough to fit how you like. Sorry it's so vague! This really is a made-to-fit kinda pattern. I'm hoping to make another one within the next year, so I'll post an update with the finished measurements from that one. Good luck with yours! :)

As others said, really nicely done!
What color Caron SS did you use for the original? I’m going to start it for a prayer shawl for a dear friend....
All the best with your busy brood! I too hope you get a chance make more videos when things calm down...

Marcy, I believe it was Pagoda, and I think it's still available online, maybe in stores - not sure. I bought mine in-store at either Hobby Lobby or JoAnns's. I hope your friend enjoys her shawl :)

Hi Candice, what type of yarn did you use? What was the weight and yards? I am using red heart Comfort 454g 16oz 792m 867yds. I am trying to figure out how many skeins I would need.
